Manmohan Singh Education Qualification: Former Prime Minister of India, renowned economist Dr. Manmohan Singh has passed away at the age of 92. He breathed his last at 9:51 pm on 26 December at AIIMS, Delhi. He had fallen prey to age-related problems. He is counted among the great economists of the country. He was known for his humility, diligence and commitment to work. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was born on 26 September 1932 in a village in the Punjab province of undivided India. He was appointed as the Secretary General of the South Commission in Geneva in 1987 and 1990. In 1971, Manmohan Singh joined the Ministry of Commerce as an economic advisor and in 1972 he was appointed as the Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance. Dr. Manmohan Singh served as Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Chairman of the Reserve Bank of India, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Chairman of the University Grants Commission.

Dr. Manmohan Singh completed his matriculation from Punjab University in 1948. After that he received his further education from Cambridge University in Britain. In 1957, he received a first class honours degree in Economics. After this, in 1962, he did his D.Phil in Economics from Nuffield College, Oxford University. Dr. Manmohan Singh has been awarded honorary degrees by Cambridge and Oxford University and many other universities.

Dr. Manmohan Singh worked as a teacher at Punjab University and Delhi School of Economics. Manmohan Singh served as the Finance Minister of India from 1991 to 1996. Dr. Manmohan Singh has been a member of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament (Rajya Sabha) since 1991. He was the Leader of the Opposition from 1998 to 2004. Dr. Manmohan Singh was sworn in as Prime Minister on 22 May 2004 after the 2004 general election and became Prime Minister for the second time on 22 May 2009. He has represented India at many international organisations and conferences. Manmohan Singh led the Indian delegation to the Commonwealth Heads of State Meeting in Cyprus in 1993 and the World Conference on Human Rights in Vienna.
