Manmohan Singh Memorial : The Union Home Ministry said on Friday night that the government will allocate space for the memorial of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his family and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge have been informed about this. In a late night release titled Facts regarding the memorial of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the ministry said that the government has received a request from Congress chief Kharge to allocate space for Singh's memorial.
Soon after the Cabinet meeting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah informed Kharge and Manmohan Singh's family that the government will allot a site for the memorial. The Home Ministry said a trust is to be formed and the site is to be allotted, meanwhile Manmohan Singh's last rites and other formalities can be completed. Singh died on Thursday.
Congress had made serious allegations
Congress President Kharge had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging that former Prime Minister Singh's last rites be performed at a place where a memorial can be built for him. Congress alleged that the government's failure to find a place for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's funeral and memorial is a deliberate insult to India's first Sikh Prime Minister. Congress had surrounded the government only after the Home Ministry had said that Singh's last rites will be performed with full state honors on Saturday at 11.45 am at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi.
