IPL 2025 Mega Auction: A big update has come out regarding the mega auction of Indian Premier League 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) has made its intentions clear. The IPL mega auction is not going to end soon. A week ago, the board met all the ten franchise owners and asked for their opinions on many things. In this, many teams raised their voice against the mega auction itself. There was also a heated debate about retention in the meeting. In such a situation, a big update seems to be coming out in the reports.

The number of players to be retained is directly related to the mega auction. Depending on its future, franchisees will be able to make long and short-term decisions. If the mega auction takes place every 3 years, no franchise will be able to invest in players and will instead opt for temporary solutions.

These teams were against the mega-auction

The issue was raised by Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, two of the finalists of the IPL 2024 season. The teams felt that they had made progress since the last mega auction in 2022, and that would be lost if they were allowed to retain just 4 players.

Teams can get a big gift

According to Cricbuzz, the board will not scrap the IPL mega auction but is willing to allow franchises to retain six players instead of the previous limit of four. Right to Match (RTM) may also return, with teams being allowed to retain players through a combination of RTM and retention. This will allow teams to retain their strong players.

RTM has not been used since the mega auction in 2018. At that time, each franchise was allowed to retain a maximum of 5 players, with no more than 3 players being bought back using RTM.
