IND vs AUS, Mohammad Shami statement: There has been a lot of speculation about the fitness of India's experienced fast bowler Mohammad Shami but he said on Monday that he is not feeling any pain now and is still not out of the race for the Australia tour starting next month. He bowled in the nets after India's opening Test against New Zealand ended in Bengaluru. However, a few days ago, captain Rohit Sharma revealed that he has swelling in his knee, which has affected his ongoing 'rehabilitation' to recover from last year's ankle injury.
Talking about his cricket journey during an event organized by 'Eugenics Hair Sciences', the 34-year-old bowler said, "I am happy with the way I bowled yesterday. I was bowling with half run-up before this because I did not want to take too much pressure. But yesterday I bowled with a full run-up. " Referring to the five-match Test series against Australia starting from November 22 in Perth, Shami said, “I have no pain now. Everyone has been wondering for a long time whether I will be able to go for the Australia series or not but it is still a while away.”
Rohit had said that he was not in favor of taking Shami for the important series due to fitness. Shami also said that he would like to play some matches for his state team Bengal in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He said, "The only thing in my mind is to ensure that I remain fit and how strong I can be for the Australia series. I know what kind of attack is needed in Australia. I have to spend more time on the field."
Shami said, 'I want to play some Ranji matches before that. ' He has not played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19 due to this injury.
