India have officially sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy 2025 after dominant wins against Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Men in Blue will now face New Zealand in their final Group A match at the Dubai International Stadium on March 2 (Sunday).

While both teams have already qualified, India will aim for a win to top the group and carry momentum into the knockout stage. Meanwhile, former England pacer Darren Gough has suggested that India take a bold call in the playing XI—resting Mohammed Shami for the New Zealand clash.

Should India Rest Mohammed Shami?

Mohammed Shami suffered an ankle knock during the match against Pakistan, forcing him off the field after his first three overs. Though he returned later and bowled in better rhythm, his fitness remains a concern.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Darren Gough recommended that India rest Shami and bring in an extra spinner on the turning track of Dubai. He also backed Hardik Pandya to act as the second seamer, given his match-winning performance against Pakistan where he took two crucial wickets.

"They probably should rest him. They've got confidence after beating Pakistan. With a strong batting lineup, India can afford to bring in another spinner in Dubai. The pitch is not as flat as in Lahore. We saw Hardik Pandya bowling brilliantly, so I would expect India to rest Shami," Gough said.

Darren Gough’s Prediction: ‘India Will Win Champions Trophy 2025’

The former England speedster also backed India to go all the way and lift the Champions Trophy. He believes that alongside India and New Zealand, South Africa and Afghanistan will qualify for the semi-finals.

"India and New Zealand have already qualified. South Africa, I think, will definitely go through. I tipped Afghanistan, and they've got to win now. I think they have an upset in them. If I were to pick a winner, I would say India. They look solid. Their batting lineup has no weakness," Gough added.
