New Delhi: Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has apologized to fans and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the board decided not to rush his return for the Australia tour as he is yet to regain match fitness. Shami completed his 'rehabilitation' at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after undergoing surgery. But his comeback plans were hampered due to swelling in his knees. However, Shami recently announced that he is not in any pain.

Shami apologized and expressed confidence in returning soon

Shami posted a video of his training on Instagram and said that he will be back soon. The 34-year-old bowler said, 'I am trying and improving my bowling fitness day by day. Will continue to work hard to be match-ready and play domestic red-ball cricket. Apologies to all cricket fans and BCCI as well. But very soon I will be ready to play red-ball cricket, love you all.'

Ranji Trophy match can be played in the first week of November

Shami is set to return to competitive cricket after a long injury layoff ahead of the tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He is expected to play in Bengal's next Ranji Trophy match against Karnataka in the first week of November. He was not selected for the five-match Test series in Australia.
