Mohammed Siraj, who used to help Jasprit Bumrah during Bumrah’s off-track days, was cut from the squad during the Champions Trophy. Such orders were given to him and Mohammed Shami while Shami was still recovering from ankle surgery. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian squad alongside Ajit Agarkar, the Head Selector, made it known that Siraj is not in the 15 members team who will be taking part in the three ODIs match against England.

Such events took place after the 2023 World Cup ODI matches, Mohammed Siraj remained absent for them, and Shami returned. Harshit Rana is another cricketer who did additional two Australian Tests matches and has been included but he will be playing only the England ODI series.

Siraj on the other Hand did not receive a place in the team as Singh’s consistent performance in games along side the 2023 Odi series in South Africa where India emerged victorious, secured Singh as the leading wicket taker, under Singh’s belt.

“We also have Shami who has given us an insight of what he can do with a new ball,” said Rohit Sharma on October 14. “We got Arshdeep in to bowl with the backend. We wanted to cover a bit with Bumrah who wasn’t a certainty to play.”

Rohit further explained, “Siraj operates at his best with a new ball but his effectiveness drops off when it requires more all round play, considering that we made the right call of selecting the right men for the right spots. There’s a lot of options available including new ball bowlers, middle and backend all rounders.”

With Sri Lanka in August for a three match series, Siraj made his last ODI appearance and secured three wickets across all of the matches.
