Suryakumar Yadav, the most dangerous batsman of the T20 format and Team India's T20 captain, is playing domestic cricket these days. After the Buchi Babu tournament, Suryakumar will also play the Duleep Trophy. Meanwhile, he expressed his desire to return to Test cricket for India. However, he himself admits that it is not going to be that easy.
Suryakumar, who has proved his mettle in the T20 format, is not able to settle in the team in the other two formats. He has definitely got opportunities again and again, but he has not been able to capitalize on it. Apart from Mumbai's Sarfaraz Khan and Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul and Rajat Patidar are ahead of Suryakumar in terms of making a place in the Test team. But Suryakumar wants to make a comeback in the Indian team by performing in domestic cricket.
Suryakumar, who reached Coimbatore to play in the Buchi Babu tournament, said after the training session in Mumbai, "Many people have worked hard to make their place and I also want to regain this place. I made my debut for India in Tests, after which I also got injured. Many people got opportunities and they have also done well.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, Suryakumar said, "If I get a place, I will get a chance, but it is not in my hands. All I can do is perform in the Buchi Babu and Duleep Trophy and wait for my turn."
Currently, Suryakumar has reached Coimbatore to be a part of the Buchi Babu tournament, after which he will head to Anantapur to participate in the Duleep Trophy. Suryakumar is part of the India 'C' team led by Rituraj Gaikwad.
Suryakumar said, "Red ball cricket has always been my priority. While I was growing up, I grew fond of long-format cricket while playing on the grounds of Mumbai. I have played a lot of first-class cricket in the last 10 years. I would always like to take advantage of the opportunity to play for Mumbai, be it Buchi Babu or Duleep Trophy. Many players have performed well in these tournaments and later got a chance to play for the country."
Suryakumar has good statistics in first-class cricket. He has scored 5628 runs in 82 first-class matches at an average of 43.62, which includes 14 centuries and 29 half-centuries.
