Heavy Rain in Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday evening issued a red alert for Mumbai and its neighboring districts and forecast extremely heavy rains. Meanwhile, rain has been continuing in many parts of the city since afternoon. A municipal corporation official said that the IMD has changed the orange alert to a red alert for the country's financial capital, which has been issued till 8:30 am on Thursday. In the latest warning issued at 5:30 pm, the IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds at isolated places in Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts.

Heavy rain, many areas submerged.

The weather department has issued an orange alert for the coastal districts of Palghar and Sindhudurg, with heavy to very heavy rainfall and thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated places. The island city of Mumbai has been receiving heavy rains since the evening, while several suburban areas have been lashed since afternoon. Heavy rains lashed Mulund and adjoining areas, inundating low-lying areas. Waterlogging and poor visibility due to heavy rains led to slow road traffic, officials said. Suburban train services, considered the lifeline of Mumbai, were also running late due to the rains.

Huge crowd of passengers at CST station

There is a huge crowd of passengers at Mumbai CST station. Central Railway and Harbour Line operate from CST. Due to waterlogging on the railway tracks of many stations of Central Railway, trains are not leaving from CST, due to which many trains are standing on the tracks, while some are moving at a very slow speed, due to which there is a huge crowd at CST.

Heavy rain in many areas of Mumbai

Heavy rain is falling in many areas of Mumbai including Andheri, Jogeshwari, Malad, Borivali, Goregaon, Kandivali, Vile Parle, Bandra, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Sion, Mulund, Bhandup, Worli. Traffic has slowed down on Western Express Highway. There is waterlogging in many places. Andheri subway has also been closed as a precautionary measure due to waterlogging. Rail services on Central and Western lines have also been affected. Its effect is also being seen in air travel. Ghatkopar station premises are flooded. Water is also visible on the tracks. Mumbai Central Railway local trains are running late. Passengers are facing difficulties.

Mumbai Police directive

Mumbai Police tweeted, that IMD has issued a warning of heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Mumbai and suburbs till the morning of 26th September. All Mumbaikars are requested to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Please stay safe. Dial 100 for any emergency.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also tweeted and said- Given the current situation, keeping in mind the safety of the students, a holiday has been declared in all schools and colleges in Mumbai tomorrow, Thursday, 26 September 2024. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration requests Mumbaikars to leave their homes only if necessary.

Two flights were diverted due to rain.

Due to the heavy rains in Mumbai, two flights coming to the city on Wednesday had to be diverted and had to land in other cities. An airport official gave this information. The official said that apart from these, seven flights of various airlines could not land and kept hovering in the air till 8:09 pm waiting for approval. He said that the two flights that were diverted included IndiGo flight number 6E1052, which was initially asked to circle in the air and was finally directed to land at Ahmedabad airport.

At the same time, Air India said that due to heavy rains in Mumbai, flights to and from the city are being affected. Guests are advised to leave for the airport early, as traffic delays and waterlogging may affect travel time.
