Navy To Commission Warships And Submarine: The strength of the Indian Navy will be further increased in the new year. On January 15, the Navy will be inducted two indigenously built frontline warships and a diesel-electric submarine, which will further increase the strength of the Navy. All three platforms, guided-missile destroyer Surat, stealth frigate Nilgiri and submarine Vagsheer are equipped with new weapons and sensors, officials said on Wednesday. The warships and submarine will be inducted at a ceremony at the naval dockyard in Mumbai.

Women officers will be included in both the warships

Both warships also feature specialized accommodations to accommodate a larger number of women officers and sailors, in line with the Indian Navy's steps towards induction of women in frontline combat roles. This historic event will provide a significant boost to the Indian Navy's combat capability, showcasing the country's excellence in indigenous shipbuilding, a statement said. All three platforms have been completely designed and built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited Mumbai, a testimony to India's growing self-reliance in the critical sector of defence production, it said.

The successful commissioning of these advanced warships and submarines highlights the rapid progress made in warship design and construction, strengthening India's position as a global leader in defense manufacturing, the Navy said in a statement. The Nilgiri warship, the first of the seven warships being built under 'Project 17A', has many special features. The Project 15B destroyer is an advanced form of the Surat, Kolkata class (Project 15A) destroyer.

Equipped with advanced sensors and weapons

Both ships have been designed by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and are equipped with advanced sensors and weapons developed primarily in India or through strategic collaborations with leading global manufacturers. Equipped with modern aviation facilities, Nilgiri and Surat Chetak can operate a range of helicopters including the Advanced Light Helicopter, Sea King and the newly inducted MH-60R.

Vagsheer, the sixth Scorpene-class submarine under the Kalvari class Project 75, is one of the most versatile diesel-electric submarines in the world. It is designed to undertake a wide range of missions including anti-surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare, intelligence gathering, area surveillance and special operations. The Navy said the launch of Nilgiri, Surat and Vagsheer demonstrates India's unparalleled progress in defence self-reliance and indigenous shipbuilding.
