Mithun Chakraborty, the famous actor in films like Mrigayaa, Suraksha, and Disco Dancer, was nominated on Monday for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the government's highest honor in the field of cinema. Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced Mithun's name for this award on X. Ashwini wrote, that Mithun Da's brilliant cinematic journey inspires generations. It is a matter of pride to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Committee has decided to give this award to the famous actor Mithun Chakraborty ji for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.

Vaishnav said that Mithun Chakraborty will be given this award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024. Chakraborty (74) made his acting debut in films with Mrinal Sen's 1976 film Mrigayaa for which he also won the National Film Award for Best Actor. He is also known for films like Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki, Disco Dancer, Suraksha, Wardaat, and Commando.
