Champions Trophy 2025 , Pakistan Team New Head Coach : Former fast bowler Aaqib Javed will continue his role in the national selection panel along with becoming the interim head coach of Pakistan in limited overs cricket till the Champions Trophy. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed this here on Monday. The board said that Javed will take over the responsibility of the head coach of the team but the PCB will continue to look for another candidate during this time.
An official said, "The PCB's target will be to complete the process of appointing a new coach by the end of the ICC Champions Trophy to be held from February 19 to March 9." Javed has experience of coaching Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). He was also recently the fast bowling coach of Sri Lanka. Javed has been given this responsibility after Pakistan's limited overs format head coach Gary Kirsten resigned.
After Kirsten's departure, Test coach Jason Gillespie played the role of interim coach of Pakistan on the Australia tour. The PCB had also offered the former Australian bowler to become the head coach of ODI and T20 formats but he turned it down. Pakistan will travel to Zimbabwe for three ODIs and as many T20 matches between November 24 and December 5. The team will then tour South Africa where it has to play three ODIs, three T20 Internationals, and two Test matches.
