Petrol Diesel Sales: Petrol consumption increased by 7.3 per cent in October due to increased demand during the festive season, while diesel sales declined by 3.3 per cent. This information was received from preliminary data released on Friday by three public-sector petroleum marketing companies. These companies have a 90 per cent share of the domestic fuel market.

Petrol sales increased to 31 lakh tonnes in October

According to the data, petrol sales of these companies increased to 31 lakh tonnes in October, while in the same month last year, this figure was 28.7 lakh tonnes. However, during this period, diesel demand fell by 3.3 per cent to 67 lakh tonnes.

Petrol sales have increased due to the increased use of private vehicles with the onset of the festive season. On the other hand, diesel demand declined due to low demand from the agricultural sector due to the prolonged rainy season. Petrol and diesel sales have been sluggish in the last few months as monsoon rains have reduced vehicle movement and demand from the agricultural sector.

Aviation fuel (ATF) sales increased by 2.5 per cent year-on-year to 6,47,700 tonnes in October 2024. However, it declined by 2.6 per cent every month. Domestic LPG sales increased by 7.5 per cent year-on-year to 28.2 lakh tonnes in October 2024.
