The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised fresh concerns over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reported visit to Vietnam, marking his second trip to the country this year.

During a press briefing on Sunday, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned the frequency of Rahul’s travels, suggesting that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha should clarify his interest in Vietnam.

"One heard Rahul Gandhi was in Vietnam during Holi after being there during the New Year as well. He is spending more time in Vietnam than in his constituency. He needs to explain his extraordinary fondness for Vietnam," said Prasad.

Calling the repeated visits “very curious,” he further suggested that Rahul’s absence from his constituency raises questions.

Rahul’s Trip Sparks Political Controversy

Rahul Gandhi’s latest visit comes just months after his previous trip to Vietnam, which coincided with the national mourning period for former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

At the time, the BJP accused Rahul of using Singh’s death for “expedient politics” while choosing to stay away during the mourning period.

Rahul’s Vietnam visit in January also sparked criticism, with the BJP questioning why he repeatedly travels to the country.

Congress Defends Rahul’s Vietnam Visit

The Congress party has largely remained silent on the controversy over Rahul’s travel.
However, senior Congress leader Harish Rawat defended him, stating that the visit was meant for studying Vietnam’s economic framework.

"This trip has nothing to do with politics. It’s about understanding Vietnam’s economic model," said Rawat.

BJP vs Congress: Political War of Words Continues

Rahul Gandhi’s frequent international visits have often been a point of attack for the BJP, which questions his commitment to domestic politics.

As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections approach, the BJP is using this issue to target Rahul, while the Congress maintains that his trips are focused on research and global engagement.
