Ravichandran Ashwin Retirement: India's legendary bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from international cricket. The third Test played in Brisbane was the last Test match of his career. He announced this during the press conference after the match was drawn. Ashwin ended his Test career as India's second-highest wicket-taker. He has 537 wickets in 106 Test matches at an average of 24. He is only behind Anil Kumble, who has taken 619 wickets in 132 Test matches for India. Apart from Test cricket, Ashwin has taken 156 wickets in 116 ODIs and 172 wickets in 65 T20s for India in ODIs. His figures in IPL have also been excellent. He has 180 wickets in 211 matches in IPL.
He was not a part of Team India in the Brisbane Test. He got a chance to play the Adelaide Test on this tour where his performance was not as expected. In this day-night Test match, he took 1 wicket for 53 runs. Earlier, in the Test series played against New Zealand, he had taken only 9 wickets.
It is difficult to fill the void of Ashwin
With Ashwin's retirement, there will be a void in Indian Test cricket. It will not be easy to fill his void. Along with 537 wickets, he also scored 3,503 Test runs which include 6 centuries and 14 half-centuries. He is counted among the top all-rounders in current cricket. He also equaled The Great Muttiah Muralitharan in terms of Player of the Series. Both have 11 Player of the Series awards to their name.
