In a moment to forget for Indian captain Rohit Sharma, he dropped an absolute sitter at first slip, denying Axar Patel a chance to claim his first international hat-trick. The incident took place during India’s Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Bangladesh in Dubai on Thursday, and the clip of Rohit’s frustration has since gone viral on social media.

The dramatic moment unfolded in the ninth over of Bangladesh’s first innings. Axar Patel was on a hat-trick, having already dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim on consecutive deliveries.
On the third delivery of the over, Patel bowled an 89.8 kph length ball just outside off to the new batter, Jaker Ali. Jaker leaned forward to defend, but the ball found the edge and flew straight to Rohit Sharma at first slip.
To everyone’s disbelief, Rohit spilled the catch, missing a golden opportunity to seal Patel’s historic hat-trick. The Indian skipper immediately beat the ground in frustration, slamming it repeatedly in disappointment before apologizing to his bowler. Patel, meanwhile, stood with his hands on his head, unable to believe his luck.
