Russian Plane Fire: The engine of a Russian plane caught fire after landing at Antalya airport in southern Turkey. There were 95 people on board the plane. Giving this information, Turkey's Transport Ministry said that all the passengers and crew members had been evacuated safely. The ministry said in a statement that the 'Sukhoi Superjet 100' class aircraft operated by Russian aviation company Azimuth Airlines took off from Sochi, Russia on Sunday and there were 89 passengers and six crew members on board the plane.
According to the statement, after the plane landed at Antalya airport at 9:34 pm local time, the pilot reported a fire in the engine, after which the airport rescue and fire brigade immediately worked to extinguish the fire. The statement said that no one was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained immediately.
Flight operations at the airport suspended.
Video of the incident posted by aviation news website Airport Haber showed flames erupting from the left side of the plane while emergency crews battled the blaze. Passengers could be seen exiting the plane through emergency doors, some of them with their luggage. The Transport Ministry said efforts were underway to move the plane off the runway. Flight arrivals at the airport have been temporarily suspended, while departures were taking place from the military-operated runway.
