SA vs BAN Day 2 Highlights : South Africa declared their first innings at 575 for six on the second day of the second Test match on Wednesday and after that, strengthened their grip on the match by taking four wickets of Bangladesh for 38 runs. Three players scored centuries for South Africa, who won the first Test of the two-match series by seven wickets. Tony de Giorgi contributed 177 while Wiaan Mulder contributed an unbeaten 105 runs. Tristan Stubbs had scored 106 runs on the first day of the match. Bangladesh's left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took five wickets for 198 runs but he did not get good support from any bowler from the other end.
South Africa resumed the day at 307 for two. De Georgi and David Bedingham had no trouble against the Bangladesh bowlers at the start of the day. The pair used sweeps and reverse sweeps to good effect against the spinners during their 116-run partnership for the third wicket.
Taijul, who took eight wickets in the first Test of the series, tried to bring Bangladesh back into the match by taking three wickets in five runs. South Africa's score changed from 386 runs for two wickets to 391 runs for five wickets. Taijul bowled Bedingham to end his innings of 59 runs and then trapped De Georgi LBW. He raised Bangladesh's hopes of a comeback by dismissing wicketkeeper Kyle Vernin without opening the account.
Fast bowler Nahid Rana (1/83) added to South Africa's woes by having Ryan Rickelton (12) caught by wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam but Mulder and Senuran Muthusamy (68 not out) put on 152 for the seventh wicket to take South Africa to a big total.
Mulder completed his century in 150 balls after which South Africa declared the innings. Kagiso Rabada, who has reached the top spot in the ICC Test bowlers rankings, then sent Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan to the pavilion in his first three overs. Islam could not open his account while Hasan scored two runs.
Dan Peterson dismissed Mahmudul Hasan (10) while Keshav Maharaj removed night watchman Hasan Mahmud to put Bangladesh on the back foot.
At the time of stumps, Mominul Haque was batting on six while captain Nazmul Hasan Shanto was batting on four runs.
