Johannesburg: South African opener Reeza Hendricks was the most expensive player in the auction held ahead of the 2025 season of the SA 20 League, who was bought by MI Cape Town for 43 lakh rands (about two crore seven lakh rupees). Hendricks was released by Joburg Super Kings before the auction, but he scored two consecutive half-centuries against Ireland in the UAE.
Temba Bavuma did not find a buyer.
According to a release issued by the organizers here, Super Kings have chosen Sri Lankan bowler Mathisha Pathirana as their wild card player. He has performed well for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL but will play for the first time in SA 20. None of the six teams bid on Temba Bavuma and Tony de Giorgi.
Shamar Joseph also got a huge amount.
Durban Super Giants bought West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph for 4,25000 rand (about 20 lakh rupees) which could not be sold earlier. Joseph plays in the IPL for Lucknow Super Giants. If he is available for the two-Test tour of Pakistan in January, he will not be able to play most of the SA20 matches starting on January 9. The Test tour of West Indies will be between 16 and 28 January. MI Cape Town has also bought batsman Colin Ingram for 1,75000 rand while spinner Dane Piedt also joined the team for the same price.
