Shakib Al Hasan vs Bangladesh Cricket Board : Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Farooq Ahmed has made it clear that the board cannot ensure the personal safety of veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan due to the cases going on against him in the country. 37-year-old Shakib on Thursday announced his retirement from T20 International with immediate effect and said that if he is assured of security upon returning home, he would like to play his farewell Test match against South Africa at home in October.

According to Bangladesh newspapers, Farooq said, "Shakib's security is not in the hands of the board. The board cannot provide personal security to a person. The decision on that (returning home) has to be taken by him. His security has to come from the highest level of the government." He said, BCB is not a security agency like the police or RAB (Rapid Action Battalion). We have not spoken to anyone (in the government) about him. His case is pending in court, so we can't really do much about it." Shakib was named as an accused in a murder case during political unrest in Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to step down due to political unrest. Shakib was a member of Parliament from her party Awami League.

Shakib had said on Thursday that if his home board does not organize a farewell match for him at home, then the second match against India here will be his last test. There is a possibility that he may represent the team in the Champions Trophy to be hosted by Pakistan. Farooq said, 'If he plays his last match on home ground, then nothing will be better than this. Shakib is facing a difficult time. I have not talked to him about retirement. If he believes that this is the right time to retire, then I respect his decision.'
