Stock Market Closing : Tuesday's trading session was full of ups and downs for the Indian stock market. The market started with a rise, but the main indices closed flat at the end of trading. The Sensex closed with a slight decline of 33 points at 84,266 and the Nifty closed with a slight decline of 13 points at 25,796. The market trend was positive even after the main indices closed in light red. On the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), 2,308 stocks closed in the green and 1,655 stocks in the red, and 91 stocks closed without any change.
Buying in midcap and smallcap
Buying was seen in midcaps and smallcaps compared to largecaps. The Nifty Midcap 100 index was up 204 points or 0.34 percent at 60,358 and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was up 151 points or 0.79 percent at 19,331.
Auto, IT, PSU Bank, Pharma, Metal, Media, Services, and Consumer Durable indices ended in the green. Fin Services, FMCG, Realty, Energy, Private Bank, and PSE indices ended under pressure.
Which stocks rose
Tech Mahindra, M&M, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, SBI, HCL Tech, Wipro, Nestle, ICICI Bank, TCS, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finserv and Sun Pharma were the top gainers in the Sensex.
IndusInd Bank, Asian Paints, HUL, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Titan, Reliance, NTPC, and L&T were the top losers. Vaibhav Vidwani, Research Analyst at Bonanza Portfolio, says the market witnessed volatility today.
Which sector saw a boom
There was buying in IT stocks, but there was selling in the oil and gas and energy sectors, which shows that investors are being cautious after the huge fall since Friday. The trading session started in the green. At 9:23 am, the Sensex was at 84,592 with a gain of 246 points or 0.35 percent and the Nifty was at 25,890 with a gain of 79 points or 0.31 percent.
