Indian equity indices closed with gains on November 1. The Sensex rose 299.13 points or 0.38 percent to close at 79,688.19 and the Nifty rose 94.20 points or 0.39 percent to 24,299.50.

Top gainers on the Nifty were M&M, ONGC, Adani Ports, Bharat Electronics, and Tata Motors, while losers were Dr. Reddy's Labs, HCL Tech, Britannia, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Enterprises. All sectoral indices also closed higher. The BSE midcap index rose 0.6 percent and the smallcap index rose 1 percent.

Indian indices started Samvat 2081 on a high on November 1 with Nifty trading above 24300. Sensex rose 357.57 points or 0.45 percent to close at 79,746.63 and Nifty rose 109.60 points or 0.45 percent to close at 24,314.90.
