Mahalakshmi Murder Case: The body of the prime suspect, who escaped after brutally killing a 29-year-old woman in Bengaluru and freezing the body parts, was found in Odisha on Wednesday. He is said to have committed suicide by hanging himself, police said. Police said the man was in a relationship with the victim Mahalakshmi and killed her after frequent arguments over her insistence on getting married. The accused, identified as Muktiranjan Pratap Ray (31), was found dead under the Dhusuri police station limits in Odisha's Bhadrak district, they said.
Became friends while working in a clothing store
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar H Tekkannavar said in Bengaluru that the man was found hanging from a tree on Wednesday morning. According to Odisha Police, he has confessed to his crime in an alleged suicide note found at the spot. According to Bengaluru Police, the suspect and the woman worked in a garment shop where they met and became friends. Both were in a relationship.
Mahalakshmi was pressuring him for marriage.
Allegedly, Mahalakshmi was pressuring him to marry her. This led to frequent arguments and physical fights between them. Angered by this, the accused, who has a short temper, killed Mahalakshmi and later dismembered her body, police said, citing a preliminary investigation. After the murder, Ray called his younger brother and asked him to vacate the rented house immediately, but when he asked the reason for doing so, Ray told his brother that he could not talk to him over the phone and that he would meet him at home and tell him.
Bengal and Odisha absconded.
When the younger brother of the accused was questioned, he revealed that after killing the woman, when Ray returned to his rented house here, he confessed the murder to his brother. Ray said he could no longer stay in the city and was going to his native place. With the help of technical analysis and call record details, the accused was identified and his mobile location was initially found in West Bengal, but he later switched it off. However, with the help of technical surveillance, his location was found in a village in Odisha and we sent our teams to nab him. He changed several places in Odisha. Here Ray was found hanging. Police are waiting for the final post-mortem report to know the exact cause of death, said the police official.
