
A massive rescue operation is in progress in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district, where a section of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel collapsed early on Saturday, leaving at least six workers feared trapped.
What Happened?
The incident occurred 12-13 km inside the under-construction SLBC tunnel, when a portion of the roof caved in unexpectedly. Reports indicate that six to eight workers might be trapped inside.
An assessment team from the construction firm has entered the site to evaluate the situation, as authorities race against time to bring the workers to safety.

PM Modi Speaks to Telangana CM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy about the ongoing rescue operation and assured full support from the central government in saving the trapped workers.
CM Reddy Directs Immediate Action
Following the incident, CM Revanth Reddy instructed:
- The district collector, superintendent of police, and other officials to coordinate relief efforts at the site.
- State Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, government adviser Adityanath Das, and senior officials to reach the site via helicopter to oversee rescue operations.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy Expresses Concern
Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy also expressed deep concern, seeking:
- A detailed report on the cause of the accident.
- Swift rescue measures for trapped workers.
- Proper medical care for injured individuals.
