Greg Chappell Statement: Former India coach Greg Chappell believes Yashasvi Jaiswal has the potential to carry forward the tradition of excellence in batting set by Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. In his column for the 'Sydney Morning Herald', Chappell said he was very impressed with Jaiswal, who scored 161 runs in the first Test against Australia here. India won the first Test by 295 runs.
Chappell wrote that 'this young opening batsman is fearless and can carry forward the legacy of excellent batting like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.' Chappell, who was the coach of India between 2005 and 2007, also underlined the huge difference in the strategy of the Indian and Australian Cricket Boards in preparing the youth in the traditional format.
Jaiswal's journey was fantastic.
He wrote that 'Jaiswal's journey shows how India's strategy and infrastructure have made it a dominant force in world cricket. The young batsman came to Mumbai at the age of ten in search of the best competition to fulfill his dream of playing for India. His commitment is amazing considering how difficult it is to make it to the Indian playing eleven. India has so many players who can play Test cricket but many do not even get a chance in the state team.'
Yashasvi is many times ahead of McSweene.y
Greg Chappell further wrote that 'Compare him with Australia's Nathan McSweeney. 22-year-old Jaiswal has played 14 Tests, 30 first-class matches, 32 List A matches, and 53 IPL matches. Whereas 25-year-old McSweeney, apart from playing his debut Test, has played 34 first-class, 22 List A and 18 T20 matches.'
