Tomato Price: The Ministry of Consumer Affairs on Sunday said retail prices of tomatoes declined by 22.4 percent every month due to improved supply across the country. According to the official statement, the all-India average retail price of tomato stood at Rs 52.35 per kg on November 14 as against Rs 67.50 per kg on October 14. During the same period, the model wholesale price witnessed a sharp decline of nearly 50 percent, from Rs 5,883 per quintal to Rs 2,969 per quintal due to increased arrivals at Delhi's Azadpur Mandi.
Supply shortages across the country have been met.
The ministry said similar price improvement was also reported from major markets like Pimpalgaon (Maharashtra), Madanapalle (Andhra Pradesh), and Kolar (Karnataka). “However, arrivals have reduced at major tomato centers of Madanapalle and Kolar.
But prices have come down due to seasonal supplies from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, which have made up for the supply shortage across the country.”
Tomato production increased by four percent.
The statement said that favorable weather conditions have supported both the yield and the smooth functioning of the supply chain from farms to consumers. The country's tomato production is estimated to increase by four percent to 213.20 lakh tonnes in the financial year 2023-24.
