Mysore-Darbhanga Express Accident: Mysore-Darbhanga Express (12578) collided with a parked train at Kavarapettai railway station on Friday night at 20.27. After the accident, a massive fire broke out in two coaches of the train. Railway sources say that the Darbhanga Express train collided with the rear of a freight train already parked on the railway track. Three coaches have derailed. According to the information, the accident has had a greater impact on the freight train. Some passengers are also reported to be injured in the accident. The fire has not been controlled yet. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out. The movement of other trains is currently affected due to the accident. All passengers, including the driver and guard, are said to be safe in the accident.

After the train accident, 2 AC coaches caught fire, which has not been controlled yet. In the video that has surfaced, people trapped in the coaches are being evacuated. A large number of people are feared to be injured in the accident. But, based on the information currently available, all the passengers including the driver and the guard are safe.

'No casualties have been reported so far in the train accident'

The Railway Board has said that there is no news of any casualty so far in the collision between the express train and the goods train in the Ponneri-Kavarapettai section of Chennai Railway Division. Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of, the Information and Publicity Department, Railway Board, issued a video message soon after the passenger train collided with the parked goods train and said, "We received information about the collision of Bagmati Express with a goods train at Kavarapettai station of Chennai Division. The rescue and relief team immediately reached the accident site." He said, "More than 95 percent of the passengers have been evacuated from the affected coaches and so far we have not received any information about anyone being casualty or seriously injured." According to Kumar, medical and railway assistance teams are present at the spot to assist the passengers.

'Free food, water, and snacks have been provided to the passengers'

He said, 'The manager of Southern Railway Zone has already left for the accident site. Railways is also making arrangements to take people to their destination by making alternative arrangements.' Giving the latest information on the relief work, Kumar said, 'We are taking all the passengers to Chennai Central by EMU and a train has been arranged in Chennai to take them to Darbhanga/other destinations.' He said that free food, water, and snacks have been provided to the passengers.

This is how the accident happened

The train passed Ponneri station at around 20.27 hrs and was given the green signal to proceed to the next station Kavaraipettai via the mainline. While entering Kavaraipettai station, the train crew got a huge shock and instead of proceeding to the mainline as per the signal given, the train entered the loop/line at a speed of 75 mph and collided with the goods train to stand in the loop line. The crew is safe. The next coach i.e. parcel van caught fire which was extinguished by the fire brigade. 12-13 coaches have derailed. So far, no casualties have been reported but some people are reported to be injured. All the injured have been taken to nearby hospitals. Up/down train movement is closed.

Doctors, ambulances, medical relief vans , and rescue teams, and senior officials are present at the site a, and most of the passengers have been rescued, discharged o, or taken to hospitals if required. Alternative arrangements are being made for the transport of passengers.
