New Delhi: Australia left-handed opener Travis Head said that playing against India is extremely difficult, and it has been good for him to perform well against the Rohit Sharma-led side across formats. In 2023, Head played a key role in Australia's victory in the World Test Championship final and ODI World Cup final by scoring brilliant centuries against India in London and Ahmedabad respectively.
In the T20 World Cup Super Eight game in St Lucia this year, Head smashed 76 off 43 balls in a chase of 206 but his dismissal off Jasprit Bumrah left Australia trailing by 24 runs to India.
Team India is not my favorite.
Head told Star Sports, 'I don't think they are my favorites. I just feel that we play them a lot, play them a lot. I think I have been in good form for the last few years. So it is always good to play well. I think it is not difficult to prepare for the competition. It is very competitive. It is easy to prepare for the game. So I would not say that they are my favorites.'
Hope for a good performance against India
In the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India and Australia will play Test matches in Perth, Adelaide (pink ball match), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from November 22 to January 7, 2025. Head, who bats as a middle-order batsman in Tests, said he is looking forward to performing well against India in this important series. He said, 'They are extremely tough, but it was nice to play well in a few matches and looking forward to preparing well and getting ready to play and hopefully I will be able to contribute in the upcoming season for us.'
Team India is looking to score a hat-trick.
India has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy the last two times it was played here in Australia, in 2018/19 and 2020/21 respectively. This will also be the first five-match Test series between India and Australia since 1991/92.
