Upcoming Tata IPO : More than a year after the mega listing of Tata Technologies, this company, which does business from salt to aviation, is working towards taking another of its companies public. Apart from this, this is the biggest public issue of Tata Group. It is expected to be one of the biggest issues in India. This will also be the second IPO of Tata Group in 20 years, before this came the public issue of Tata Technologies. Whose shares made their debut on D-Street in November 2023. Before this, the last Tata IPO was of IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in 2004.
Upcoming Tata IPO
According to a report in the Economic Times, the group has begun work on the IPO of Tata Capital, one of India's leading NBFCs offering a wide range of financial products and services for individuals, SMEs and corporate customers. The issue is said to be 5 times bigger than the IPO of Tata Technologies.
The Economic Times report, citing multiple sources, said that the Tata Group is in the process of launching a mega $2 billion or about Rs 17,000 crore IPO of Tata Capital. Apart from this, the group has started talks with some bankers for the IPO.
Apart from this, the Tata Group has also recently allowed Kotak Investment Banking officials to start the process of launching the IPO. Sources told ET that the group may appoint additional bankers by January 2025 for Tata Capital's mega public issue.
Note that Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules have made D-Street listing of Tata Sons and Tata Capital mandatory as both entities are classified as upper-tier non-banking financial companies (NBFCs). Due to this, they are required to list their shares by September 2025.
Tata Capital IPO Valuation
The unlisted shares of the IPO-bound Tata company have shown a remarkable growth from Rs 450 in December last year to Rs 1100 in April. Currently, the unlisted shares of Tata Capital are trading at around Rs 900. At this price, the unlisted market is valuing the company at Rs 3.5 lakh crore based on the outstanding number of 3.74 billion shares as of the end of FY24, according to an ET report.
Tata Capital IPO Shareholding
Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, holds a 93 per cent stake in the IPO-bound Tata Capital. Notably, Tata Capital is the holding company for the Group's three lending businesses - Tata Capital Financial Services, Tata Capital Housing Finance and Tata Cleantech Capital and three investment and advisory businesses Tata Securities, Tata Capital Singapore and Private Equity.
Tata Capital IPO Date
As per RBI's upper-level NBFC regulations, it could be launched by September 2025. Meanwhile, Tata Capital saw its revenue grow 34 per cent to Rs 18,178 crore in FY24 and its net profit grew 12 per cent to Rs 3,315 crore. The NBFC's total assets as of FY24 are Rs 23,417 crore.
