Indian Cricket, VVS Laxman Statement: BCCI Center of Excellence chief VVS Laxman believes that Indian cricket has such a 'bench strength' that can help India dominate world cricket in every format for the next decade. Laxman became the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in 2021 after Rahul Dravid. Now the NCA itself has been converted into a Center of Excellence, which was inaugurated on Sunday. Laxman's tenure ended earlier this year but was extended by one year.
Laxman told select journalists here, 'I can say with full confidence that we have enough players who can make India proud for the next ten years. I am not only talking about men's cricket but also about women's cricket. We are lucky that we have so many talented players.' He said, 'We won the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies, which is a big deal. But if we look at all three formats, we have dominated. Not only in the rankings but also in other aspects.'
He said, 'A supply chain has been formed in cricket because we have so many players. This is a very good thing.' Laxman said that it was important to prepare the players without disturbing their natural game. He said, 'The focus was on how to prepare them so that they can perform their best. We did not instruct them to do this or not to do that and neither did we change their technique.'
He said, 'The player should feel comfortable. We do not want him to take the burden of the advisor's words. When Rahul was the head coach of the Indian team, he was responsible for the contracted players and we used to prepare the rest of the players, emerging and under-19 players in the NCA.' Laxman said that for this, a network of support staff was also created in the state cricket associations so that uniformity and continuity are maintained in coaching.
