A 23-year-old law student, Rakshit Chaurasia, who allegedly drove a car into multiple vehicles in Vadodara, Gujarat, killing one person, has denied being drunk at the time of the crash.

The incident occurred late Thursday night in the Karelibag area, leading to the death of one person and injuries to several others. Chaurasia was later arrested, along with Meet Chauhan, the owner of the car, who was present but not driving.

What Chaurasia Said After His Arrest

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Chaurasia defended himself, claiming that:
The car lost control due to potholes on the road.
He was driving at 50 kmph at the time.
He was not intoxicated.
He wishes to meet the family of the deceased and is willing to accept their decision.

Chaurasia's Statement:

"The car lost control due to potholes. The speed was around 50 kmph. There was a scooty and a car in front of me. I was not drunk. I want to meet the family members of the deceased because it was my fault. Whatever they wish should happen."

CCTV Footage & Social Media Reactions

However, CCTV footage from the accident scene tells a different story.

A viral video on social media shows Chaurasia stepping out of the car in a seemingly intoxicated state.

  • He was seen staggering and shouting on the road.
  • He repeatedly yelled phrases like “Another round, another round!” and “Om Namah Shivay!”.

These visuals have raised serious doubts over his claims of being sober.

Police Investigation & Charges

Joint CP Leena Patil confirmed that this was a case of drunk driving.

Police Statement:

"A 4-wheeler rammed into a 2-wheeler, and one woman died in the accident. The accused driver has been caught. Police are conducting further probe…this is a case of drunk driving."

Current Developments:

Chaurasia has been arrested and faces legal action.
Meet Chauhan, the car owner, has also been taken into custody.
Further investigations are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.

Final Thoughts: A Reckless Act With Tragic Consequences

The tragic accident in Vadodara once again highlights the dangers of reckless driving. While Chaurasia denies being intoxicated, the CCTV evidence and witness accounts suggest otherwise.

As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on seeking justice for the victim and ensuring that such incidents serve as a warning against irresponsible driving.
