Virat Kohli once again proved why he is one of the greatest batters of all time as he roared back to form with a stunning 51st ODI century and 82nd international ton in India’s 2025 Champions Trophy clash against arch-rivals Pakistan.
The Indian batting maestro delivered a match-winning knock of 100 off 111 balls*, remaining unbeaten as he guided India to a comfortable five-wicket victory with 45 balls to spare at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday (February 23). With this win, India secured their second consecutive victory, while Pakistan’s campaign is now hanging by a thread after suffering back-to-back losses.
Virat Kohli Breaks Rohit Sharma’s World Record
During his sensational knock, Kohli shattered multiple records, including surpassing Rohit Sharma’s tally of most runs against Pakistan in ICC ODI events.
- Rohit Sharma (20 off 15 balls) was dismissed early by a vicious Shaheen Afridi delivery.
- Kohli, on the other hand, became the first player in history to score over 400 runs against Pakistan in ICC ODI events.
- The top three run-getters against Pakistan in ICC ODI events are now all Indian batters, with Sachin Tendulkar following closely behind.

Adding to his incredible feats, Kohli extended his record as the leading run-getter against Pakistan across all ICC white-ball tournaments, crossing the 700-run mark—a milestone no other batter has achieved.

Player of the Match for a Record Fifth Time Against Pakistan
Kohli’s magnificent innings earned him the Player of the Match (POTM) award for the fifth time against Pakistan in an ICC tournament match. This is a record, as no other player has won the award more than three times against the same opponent in ICC events.
- This was also Kohli’s first-ever Champions Trophy century, having previously registered five 50+ scores in the tournament.
- The former Indian captain made his Champions Trophy debut against Pakistan in 2009 and remains the only active player to have featured in five different editions.
With 651 runs in 14 innings at an average of 93.00, Kohli is now the 7th highest run-getter in Champions Trophy history. No other player in the tournament's 26-year history has an average over 80 while scoring more than 300 runs.
As things stand, Kohli needs just 141 more runs to become the leading run-scorer in Champions Trophy history.
Fastest to 14,000 ODI Runs – Another World Record
If Kohli’s incredible night wasn’t enough, he also became the fastest player in history to reach 14,000 ODI runs, achieving the feat quicker than Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.
Kohli also joined Tendulkar as only the second player in cricket history to score 51 centuries in a single format. While Kohli has achieved this in ODIs, Tendulkar recorded 51 centuries in Test cricket.
The King Reigns Supreme
Virat Kohli’s unmatched consistency, hunger for runs, and ability to thrive under pressure have once again cemented his legacy as one of cricket’s greatest batters. With a century against Pakistan in every major tournament, he has further etched his name into the history books.
As India continues their dominant Champions Trophy campaign, Kohli’s brilliance will be key to their title aspirations. With Pakistan on the verge of elimination, the Men in Blue are now looking like the strongest contenders for the trophy.
