At the same time, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when Rahul contested from Wayanad for the first time, more than 80 percent voting was recorded there. Voting for the Lok Sabha by-election in Wayanad took place briskly in the morning and in the first eight hours, more than 50 percent of people exercised their franchise there.
Low voter turnout in Wayanad
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) dismissed fears that low voter turnout in Wayanad would reduce Priyanka's victory margin.
Leader of Opposition in Kerala Assembly VD Satheeshan said that the low voter turnout in Wayanad was a result of a lack of enthusiasm among voters in areas dominated by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) led Left Democratic Front (LDF). However, the LDF and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) rejected the UDF's claim and said that the low polling percentage was a result of people not coming out to vote in areas dominated by the Congress and its allies.
