New Delhi: India ranked 18th in the medal tally with a total of 29 medals including 7 gold, 9 silver, and 13 bronze medals at Paris Paralympics 2024. The Indian contingent has broken the record of the best medals ever set by India in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics (total medals 19). At the same time, after creating history, today Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the Indian para-athletes. PM Modi talked to the athletes and congratulated them.

PM Modi met every Indian para-athlete one by one and also talked to them. During this, an interesting incident happened which caught everyone's attention. When PM Modi was meeting Navdeep Singh, who won the gold medal in the javelin throw, Paralympic champion Navdeep had his cap in his hand. He wanted to present it to PM Modi. During this, the Prime Minister sat down on the ground and gave Navdeep a chance to wear the cap.

During the meeting, PM Modi said to Navdeep, "I want to make you wear a cap, Sir." On this, PM Modi said, "So I will sit here, you make me wear the cap." PM Modi shook hands with the champion and said, "It seems you are great." During this, the entire hall echoed with thunderous applause. After this, he also gave an autograph on Navdeep's left hand, which made this meeting even more special.

Navdeep was born with a short height.

Let us tell you that 23-year-old Navdeep Singh was born with a short height. He is 4 feet 4 inches tall. Some people used to tease him for his short height. But this did not discourage him. Navdeep never gave up and continued his passion for athletics.

Para-athlete Navdeep Singh, who won a gold medal in javelin throw for India, is working as an inspector in the Income Tax Department. He is currently posted in Bengaluru. Navdeep was born in a Jat Tomar middle class family. He hails from Panipat, Haryana. His father is a farmer and he also has his own milk dairy.

Avni Lekhara presented the jersey.

Avani Lekhara, who became the first Indian woman to win two gold medals at the Paralympic Games, presented her jersey to PM Modi after retaining her title with a world record score in the women's 10m air rifle standing SH1 shooting event. It read, "Thank you sir... for your support." Apart from this, Prime Minister Modi signed Kapil Parmar's bronze medal, which he won in the Para Judo men's 61 kg J1 category.

84 para-athletes represented India

A record 84 para-athletes represented India at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, held from 28 August to 8 September in the French capital. India participated in 12 sports, three more than at Tokyo 2020. These included three new sports - para cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo.
