Parliament Winter Session: The winter session of Parliament is starting from today. There are chances of uproar on many issues in this session. Especially on the Waqf Act (Amendment) Bill, the Adani case, and Manipur violence, there can be a lot of uproar in the Parliament. The winter session will run till December 20, in which many bills will be introduced. The leaders of India Block also held a meeting in the Parliament House today to discuss the strategy of the opposition. At the same time, the government had also called an all-party meeting on Sunday regarding the session.
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has given an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to discuss the Adani case.
These Bills will be discussed in the Parliament during this session including the Muslim Waqf (Abolition) Bill, Indian Aircraft Bill, Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill, Shipping Bill, Carriage of Goods Bill, Maritime Bill, Railways (Amendment) Bill, Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, and Oil Sector (Regulation and Development) Amendment Bill. Ahead of the session, the government held an all-party meeting on Sunday, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in which all parties were appealed to cooperate in ensuring smooth functioning of the Parliament.
Discussion on Adani Group case On the opposition's demand to take up the bribery allegations against the Adani Group for discussion, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the respective business advisory committees of both the houses will decide on the agenda of the session. Last week, US prosecutors launched indictments against Gautam Adani and seven others for allegedly bribing Indian government officials to secure power supply contracts. However, the Adani Group has denied the allegations and called them baseless.
India Bloc meeting Meanwhile, MPs of India Bloc parties held a meeting at 10.30 am in Parliament House to finalize the opposition's strategy before the session began. According to sources, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge may decide the strategy. The party will also raise the issue of Manipur violence and bribery allegations against the Adani Group. Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju called for a peaceful session of Parliament, saying the central government is ready to discuss any topic.
Rijiju said, there should be a meaningful debate in Parliament.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday after the all-party meeting ahead of the session on November 24, Rijiju said several topics were raised for discussion in Parliament. Rijiju said a total of 42 leaders from 30 political parties were present at the meeting. There are several topics. Everyone has asked for discussion on some topics but we want a good discussion in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He said, the government is ready to discuss any topic. Our only request is that the House should run smoothly and there should be no ruckus. Every member wants to participate in the discussion but the House should run smoothly. Everyone's cooperation is necessary, and everyone's participation is necessary.
